M-WC: Sato celebrates victory in Sapporo

Yukiya Sato surprisingly won the first competition of the weekend in front of his home crowd in Sapporo. He left behind Stefan Kraft and Dawid Kubacki.

The 24-year-old Japanese jumped 137.5m and 138.5m which secured him the second victory of the season. Stefan Kraft was left behind by a margin of 10.2 points. Kraft landed on 138m and 125m and therefore became second. Dawid Kubacki from Poland completed the podium. The 27-year-old athlete from Zakopane jumped 136m and 126m.

Domen Prevc, who once held the hill record in Sapporo, missed the podium on the fourth place (130m & 136m). The German Stephan Leyhe finished the competition on the fifth place (130.5m & 129.5m).

On account of Stefan Kraft’s solid performances over the last competitions, he supersedes Karl Geiger by taking the first place in the overall ranking (963p.).

The next competition in Sapporo will be held at 02:00 CET.
